Where Inflammation Fits In

A blood marker called CRP, which rises with inflammation, has emerged as a useful additional piece of the cardiovascular risk picture, particularly for people whose traditional risk factors don't fully explain their risk level. It reflects a broader process — chronic low-grade inflammation — that contributes to blood vessel damage alongside cholesterol and blood pressure.

CRP isn't typically used alone to make treatment decisions; it's most useful alongside the standard lipid panel and blood pressure readings as part of a fuller risk assessment. Elevated levels can result from many causes, so context from a healthcare provider matters more than the number in isolation.
